Is it just me...

or does it seem like you go through phases with books? The whole summer, I picked up very few novels that I thought were worth my time (and money), and then even less that I thought deserved much praise.

But then, just a couple weeks ago, I recieved Paper Towns by John Green (review directly below) and my whole reading life turned around. I've read so many spectacular--or at the very least well-written and executed--novels. These include The Wednesday Letters by Jason F. Wright (review in progress), It's Kind of a Funny Story by Ned Vizzini (also a review in the near future), and The Warrior Heir by Cinda Williams Chima. So now that I'm on a roll, I'm almost fearful of continuing, in case I break the streak. But that still won't stop me. =)

So I've got a questions for all the readers out there:

1) Do you hit periods of highs or lows when reading a continuous supply of books? Times when all you read is bad, or everything you pick up is good?
2) When you do hit those, do you ever think of stopping because you give up trying to find something good? Or because you're afraid the next one will be bad?
3) What have you read recently that's worth mentioning?

I definitely have times when I walk into a book store and have to be almost dragged out before I spend every penny, but other times nothing seems unique or interesting which is so frustrating.
When I hit a good streak I just keep going, but if I love a book I'm always upset when I near the end, no matter how much I want to know what happens!
Wish You Were Here by Catherine Clark was really good and I just re-read Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist by Rachel Cohn and David Levithian in preparation for the movie :)

1) Absopositively. This happens to me all the time. I'm in one of those disturbing trends of ick and boring right now. Any suggestions to break the curse?

2) Yeah. I guess I've done it before. There have even been times when I take a short break from reading altogether *gack*. Those never last very long ;)

3) Ummm.... recently I read How Not to Be Popular by Jennifer Zeigler and that was pretty much made of awesome. I've been mostly sifting through my own shelves though. So... How to Be Bad, Kiki Strike, and the Murder of Bindy Mackenzie.

Super long comment. Sorry.

pepsivanilla: I'm trying to get my hands on a copy of Nick and Norah's for rereading, but the friend I borrowed it from the first time lost it. I'm going to see the movie for my b-day, though, so I'm hoping to find a copy soon! (it's in a week and a half)

aella? medeia? both?: no suggestions, except maybe just reread a fantabulous book, or...uh...I don't know. Read something good? And no need to apologize for the long comments. Those are most appreciated. ;)

Aella on that previous comment. Still Aella on this one. I've listed some suggestions in a neat and orderly fashion (ish) below.

1. Saga by Conor Kostick

2. Flowers in the Attic by VC Andrews (totally disturbing. But still wickedly good)

3. Naomi and Ely's No Kiss List by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan

4. Gone by Michael Grant (I can't make you any promises. It's what I'm reading right now and half way through the book I'm thinking it's pretty good.

5. The Latent Powers of Dylan Fontaine by April Lurie (YESYESYES)

Okay. That's about it for now. I'm all drained out of recent readings to help you with. Lo siento . I hope you enjoy those, though.

In a way, yes. I felt that way this summer when I had like 10+ books that I had to read for review. It was like, ugh, here's another I have to review so I should read it first before I read anything else.

But no, I don't usually get discouraged if I read a couple books that I didn't love in a row. I'm sure there is always a good one around the corner. Or at the very least and old favorite I can re-visit. ;)

I go through phases but then I just try to find something that is different from what I've been reading. I'm hating the book I'm reading right now but it's for my IRL book club so I'm gonna try and suffer through it. I think book lovers generally won't give up after a bad spell but those who don't read quite as often are more likely to get discouraged. I hope it passes for you!!
